KMT series – New REACH standards – Teflon film with PFCAs (C9-C14)

02 March 2023

Recently, we received a communication from a supplier of the Teflon film that is incorporated into our KMT Series switches that the film (0.3 mg/piece) contains PFCAs (C9-C14)
in excess of the 25 ppb limitation contained in the revised REACH standards that go into effect in the European Union on February 25 of this year. Because of this issue, the supplier will be ceasing production of the film as of that date.

We are diligently working to identify a replacement film that can be used that is compliant with the new REACH standards without a reduction in performance. Furthermore, we have arranged for a significant supply of the film to be imported into the EU prior to the February 25 effective date, so that we can continue to build and supply KMT Series switches while we find and qualify a replacement film. We anticipate that this last time buy will satisfy our customer demand for 12 months. We are also testing to determine if our manufacturing processes may render the film compliant with the new standard after the switch is assembled and will update you as soon as those results are received.

K12S Series Illuminated Keyswitch Video

Our new video showcases C&K’s K12S Series Keyswitch which are highly demanded in the automotive industry.

The entire line of K12S Series keyswitches feature gold-plated, self-cleaning contacts with low contact resistance (<100mΩ), 100N overload resistance and life cycles of 1,000,000. The switches’ low PCB-mounted profile makes them ideal for mechatronics design engineers to integrate into complex sub-assemblies requiring precise control for joysticks, remote controls, vehicle cabins and forklift/crane controls. In the DPST configuration, the K12S Series meets safety requirements for demanding applications in medical, military, avionics or industrial equipment.
